Communicating the Need to Prepare & Practicing What We Preach

We’ve all heard the preparedness message… we know that it is important to prepare for natural disasters. But do we practice what we preach? For example, most of us know that we should have a NOAA weather radio, yet some rely solely on a cell phone to receive weather notifications. I’ll examine reasons behind why some people don’t prepare in advance and discuss potential solutions.

Cheryl Nelson is the Founder & Owner of Prepare with Cher, LLC, an award-winning TV host, and an AMS certified broadcast meteorologist with nearly two decades of national and local television experience. Cheryl has appeared on Fox & Friends/Fox News, BBC World News, CNBC, The Weather Channel, The AccuWeather Network, The Real, Al Jazeera and in various local U.S. television markets, such as KTLA 5 Los Angeles and NBC 10 Boston.

A broadcast meteorologist certified by the American Meteorological Society, and a Natural Disaster Preparedness Expert/Instructor certified by FEMA, Cheryl helps save lives by teaching the public how to prepare for extreme weather events. As a scientist, Cheryl enjoys covering all aspects of STEM - with a passion for weather, climate and space exploration.

Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology with an emphasis in Communications from Penn State University.
